A former leading fashion model, almost 5'10'' tall, Carey was an a fan favorite of high-end American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was an outstanding geologist who in 1979 was named Scientist of the Year in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was educated throughout the world due to her father's work. As she attended in the University of Colorado at part-time when she was discovered to be the target of a Ford model Agency representative in New York. She briefly spent time and studied in Paris before returning in New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she was featured on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's as well as many other covers of magazines. While modeling, she also studied at New York University full-time to earn a master's degree in literature. In time, she began to become interested in acting and attended the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986 she had her first acting role, a bit part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. In her spare time she likes to ski or windsurfing. She also enjoys climbing mountains and whitewater rafting.
